Visalia Swap Meet
You may already know that Visalia has a Swap Meet. I've gone to this thing since I was a kid with my parents. Back when I was a kid, it was more like a giant yard sale. Now, it's more like an outdoor mall. Don't go there think you will pick up name brand product on the cheap. It's all cheapo depot knock offs on the cheap. Think 10 socks for $5 or $7 dresses kind of a deal.
It's not just people trying to sell crap they have around the house. They are small business selling clothes, cleaning supplies, entertainment goods and services. Some stuff aren't any better of a deal then driving into town. What I think is that the customer base don't want to drive into town. They like to live on the DL, if you know what I mean. *wink-wink/nod-nod*.
I went looking for deals on video games and they were equal to used Gamestop prices. I saw puppies for sale and they wanted $300 for rottweilers. I could get a better deal at the SPCA. But again, the customer base might not want to got through an adoption process to get a dog, even if it's cheaper.
If you are looking for animals other than dogs, they have all kinds of farm and not so farm animals.
FOOD! They have a huge assortment of fruits and veggies. But they all look like they get it from the same source. Actually, all the stuff there looks like they get it from the same source. They have giant bundles of toilet paper for cheap but everyone sells the same off brand.
It's weird but it's Visalia and it's all we got.

Post Apocalyptic Sunday
The path was clear. Clear for only a moment and then it was filled with the living dead. Voraciously hungry and mad with the desire for flesh. I was going to run but to where. No where was safe. No where could I go. I stood and allowed them to consume me. It was over so quickly. I arose only to join the feast of others.

Post Apocalyptic Sunday
When the Robots came, they started with the hospitals. Some say it was the Robot's cruelty that sparked the eventual rebellion. It was the rebellion that completed the total eradication of mankind.

Of Monsters and Men coming to Visalia Fox Theatre @monstersandmen
Of Monsters and Men is an amiable group of
day dreamers who craft folk pop songs. But last year, the normally
mild-mannered six pack transformed into total rock stars after stomping
out their competition during Músiktilraunir, a yearly battle of the
bands in their native Iceland.

In September, Of Monsters and Men threw another party—a more thoughtful
gathering to celebrate their full-length debut, My Head Is an Animal.
(The album, which was released in Iceland and hit No 1 there soon after, available worldwide in early 2012.) For the occasion, they cut out
animal masks for the attendees to wear, making them makeshift
monster-men/women. “Iceland can be a very isolated country and that
translates to the music," Nanna says, adding,"We get stuck in our little
world".

Disc Golf
I have a Canadian friend who introduced me to Disc Golf. We played a couple of times at Mooney Grove. I bought my own set of discs and located this course at the park on Edison off of Tulare Ave. I like to play disc golf but much like real golf, I get lost. That's frustrating. I think the most interesting think about this park is the sleeping homeless people you have to play through.

Post Apocalyptic Sunday
It's another Sunday here in lovely Visalia and yet another barren street. On most days, weekdays, this is one of the most busiest areas of Visalia but on a Sunday, nothing. You could light off a cannon down this street and hit no one. Again, I say, this is perfect for a zombie movie to film here

Creepy Creek
There are some parts of Visalia that are just creepy. I think it's because Halloween is coming or I'm just weird that way but I like it. If a body was discovered right there, I would not be surprised. It's just that horrific.

Mill Creek of Death
It's doesn't look much but it's really a creek that runs across the whole town. Most of it is covered. I hear stories that way back in the days of dinosaurs, Visalians would go tubing under the city in complete darkness. The smart ones would take their cigarettes with them to light the way. I say no way. The wildest thing I did as a youth was train catching. That's where you stand as close as you possible can while on a bridge. So, once the train comes, you are pretty much committed to possibly dying. It's very loud and very loud and very dangerous. You can easily get struck by the train or something on it. Maybe I would have gone tubing.

Two Benches
Behind Checkers and on the Kaweah Delta Hospital campus is a little area for people to sit and talk or just sit. The Mill Creek runs through the whole area and there are tall trees and ivy. It's very nice.

Gum Brick
Walking the streets of Visalia, I came across a giant wad of gum. I hope it was gum. I didn't taste it. It was stuck on a brick wall. Not tucked away in the corner or alley but smack dab in the middle next to a sidewalk. I thought it odd enough to take a photo of it and immortalize this globule.

Doctor Driftwood: Premier resource for driiftwood creations
I met an artist who lives in my neighborhood. His name is David Carmen, A.K.A. Doctor Driftwood, and he creates art from reclaimed driftwood he finds on his nature hikes. From his finds he creates arts, crafts and furniture.
The LOVE sign is my personal favorite. What caught my eye was his display on his yard his furniture pieces. They are fully functional pieces. I sat in them personally and they held my weight. One piece that I thought was really awesome was a love seat with the word love worked into the back.
I suggest you check out his website and place your order today.

CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN &
Not An Airplane
$10, 21+, 9:30pm
The Cellar Door
101 W. Main St., Visalia
tickets: Ticketweb.com
Camper Van Beethoven frontman David Lowery started the influential band in 1983. CVB's eclectic style mixes pop, ska, punk, rock, folk, and alt. country, all mixing with Lowery's "outsider" whit-filled lyrics.
The band was inactive from 1990-1999, as Lowery instead hit the mainstream with his band Cracker. But soon, thanks to the internet, his old Camper Van Beethoven songs were being covered by bands all over the world. CVB record sales quickly surpassed previous sales.
Luckily, for their original fans and new fans alike, Lowery reformed the band in late 1999. Though they are still performing songs from their legendary albums, such as "Key Lime Pie", they've since recorded new music. This performance will mix the old with the new, as only Camper Van Beethoven can do.

Visalia burrito challenge
I've never eaten at El Rosal Mexican Restaurant in Visalia until recently. I personally did not care for their food. It tasted to me very bland and commercial. They seem to be very busy so somebody likes their food and good for them.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif I do not believe I will add them to my list of go to restaurants.
One interesting thing is that they have a burrito challenge. The challenge is to eat a 5 and a half pound burrito in 30 minutes or less. Here's a video of one man from out town accepting the challenge. What we need is someone local to try and eat that monster.
