Camper Van Beethoven Coming to Visalia
Sunday, Feburuary 12
CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN &
Not An Airplane
$10, 21+, 9:30pm
The Cellar Door
101 W. Main St., Visalia
tickets: Ticketweb.com
Camper Van Beethoven frontman David Lowery started the influential band in 1983. CVB's eclectic style mixes pop, ska, punk, rock, folk, and alt. country, all mixing with Lowery's "outsider" whit-filled lyrics.
The band was inactive from 1990-1999, as Lowery instead hit the mainstream with his band Cracker. But soon, thanks to the internet, his old Camper Van Beethoven songs were being covered by bands all over the world. CVB record sales quickly surpassed previous sales.
Luckily, for their original fans and new fans alike, Lowery reformed the band in late 1999. Though they are still performing songs from their legendary albums, such as "Key Lime Pie", they've since recorded new music. This performance will mix the old with the new, as only Camper Van Beethoven can do.

You Can See the Mountains from Visalia, again
It was getting pretty smoggy here in the valley. Luckily for us a light rain cleared it up and we can see the beautiful mountains again. This picture was taken by Visalian, Ryan Dunehew at the corner of Pratt Road and County Center. It's days like this that make me happy to live in Visalia.
Click on the picture for a larger view. Not life size but pretty close.

Visalia Ripe Olive Bread
Visalia Ripe Olive Bread. I don't know what this has to do with Visalia but now it does.
3 eggs, well beaten
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups chopped pitted ripe olives
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 cup milk
Directions
Beat eggs with sugar, salt, and oil.
Stir in olives.
Sift flour with baking powder and add alternately with milk to other ingredients.
Stir gently until just blended.
Pour mixture into a well-greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3 inches).
Let stand for 30 minutes.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until bread tests done.
Do not serve warm; bread improves on standing.

Visalia burrito challenge
I've never eaten at El Rosal Mexican Restaurant in Visalia until recently. I personally did not care for their food. It tasted to me very bland and commercial. They seem to be very busy so somebody likes their food and good for them.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif I do not believe I will add them to my list of go to restaurants.
One interesting thing is that they have a burrito challenge. The challenge is to eat a 5 and a half pound burrito in 30 minutes or less. Here's a video of one man from out town accepting the challenge. What we need is someone local to try and eat that monster.
